The SIPP technology, materials & how Spraypoxy became the Market Leader in Small Diameter Pipe Coating

While there are various different solutions for dispensing & applying protective coatings in pipes, Spraypoxy remains the market leader for small diameter drain & sewer pipe coating with it’s ability to serve the various needs of repairing & maintaining our deteriorating pipe systems.

In our previous article (Link) we took a quick glance into the world of extending the usable life of deteriorating drains infrastructure. While there are several methods to repairing our collapsing drainage infrastructure within buildings such as cured-in-place piping, spray coating methods offer a variety of benefits for repairing pipes.

Here at Spraypoxy, our focus has always been to develop pipe coating systems that are of highest quality without sacrificing mobility. When working with pipes inside buildings, we often have to work in confined spaces and highly variable sizing of different types of pipes.

All of our solutions are purpose designed, tailormade tools to achieve successful pipe renovations on the field. All of our system components are precision machined from high quality materials such as stainless steel and aluminum, and we only use the highest quality parts suppliers and manufacturers in designing and building our solutions.

Spray coating technology is a key to unlocking the repair potential in even the smallest pipe sizes, all the way down to DN 32 (1 ¼”). With our MidiCoater, we’ve created a breakthrough product which allows you to apply coating to a wide range of different pipe sizes (DN32-DN150) (1 ¼” – 6”) with a single, highly portable, and powerful unit.

MidiCoater +

MidiCoater is one of our most technologically advanced systems, where we’ve integrated several machines into one: You can use MidiCoater for pipe cleaning due to it’s integrated electric motor which can be used to operate flexible shafts, or for brush coating pipes by utilizing the same electric motor for rotating a nylon brush, effectively installing the coating resin into the pipe by mechanical application. You can also coat the pipes with our proprietary spray coating technology by installing a high-speed, centrifugal-force driven spray head for applying the coating.

Internal pipe coating, also known as internal pipe lining or relining, is a process used to repair and protect the inside of pipes. It involves applying a thin layer of material to the inside surface of the pipe to create a smooth, seamless surface that is resistant to corrosion, erosion and other types of damage. The following is a step-by-step guide to the process of internal pipe coating using the SIPP (Spray-In-Place Pipe) method:

  1. Preparation: Before coating the pipe, it is important to properly prepare the surface. This usually involves cleaning the pipe with a mechanical tool such as chain knockers and brushes ran by a flexible shaft to remove any debris or contaminants, and possibly roughing up the surface to provide a better bonding surface for the coating.
  2. Application of the coating material: The coating material is applied using a centrifugal-force rotated spray head, which sprays a thin layer of the material onto the inside surface of the pipe. The material may be applied in one or more layers, depending on the thickness of the coating desired. Usually, the recommended amount of applications layers is 3. The epoxy resin can also be applied with a spray gun that can be attached to our MidiCoater System.
  3. Curing: After the coating material has been applied, it must be allowed to cure. This typically involves letting the material sit for a period of time, during which it will harden and become fully bonded to the surface of the pipe.
  4. Inspection and testing: Once the coating has fully cured, the pipe should be inspected with an inspection camera to ensure that it has been applied properly and that there are no defects or areas of thin coverage. This may involve visual inspection and/or testing using specialized equipment.
  5. Final touches: Once the coating has been inspected and tested, it’s time to clean up your working area, attach any fixtures included in the job, and making sure the piping is completely operational.

It’s important to note that the specific steps and materials used in the internal pipe coating process may vary depending on the type of pipe being coated and the specific requirements of the project. It is also important to follow all safety guidelines and use protective equipment when applying the coating material. Read the Spraypoxy Process Guide before conducting any installations.

Minispray

In addition to the MidiCoater (and the MidiCoater Plus, which comes with dual press system), our lineup also consists of two different variations: MiniSpray/MiniSpray Plus and the HC-1, our largest coating unit. MiniSpray is the perfect companion for quick and easy coating jobs. It’s ultra light as there is no built in electric motor for flexible shaft works – it’s purely designed for spray coating.

The HC-1 is designed for large, long pipe works. With it’s integrated 18KG resin system, it removes the necessity for changing resin cartridges as you go, and you’ll be able to achieve much longer runs without interruptions.

HC-1 HeavyCoater

With our complete selection of coating resins, you’ll be able to handle several different needs for surface repairs: our epoxy resins are prime for sewer repairs & drain coating applications, while our polyurethane based solutions offer wide applications for manholes and other solutions with the added benefit of super fast curing time.

Our product catalog comes complete with everything you need to get started in pipe coating. While our systems are well designed and complete setups, there are some auxiliary systems needed for getting the job done – for example, compressors for generating pressurized air for the process. We’ve gone above and beyond in sourcing the best available solutions for each part of the process, and we have conducted extensive testing to each component, tool, and piece of equipment we sell to make sure the compatibility with other Spraypoxy solutions is complete.

While there are various different solutions for dispensing & applying protective coatings in pipes, Spraypoxy remains the market leader for small diameter drain & sewer pipe coating with it’s ability to serve the various needs of repairing & maintaining our deteriorating pipe systems. Our technology is highly flexible, it accommodates a wide variety of jobs with simple equipment setups and our coating resins are top of the line.
